So, maybe some of you are curious to know why I’m making the decision to devote hours of my life to sitting in front of a computer when I could be outside “making something of myself”. Maybe you want to know why I call this blog “Miss Monica Muses”. Maybe you just think I’m the bee’s knees and want to know all about my life & my story…
Whatever your reasons may be, they have led you here–to this very page, and I may as well provide you with a few answers. Maybe not the answer, but who knows? Answers can be found in the strangest of places, even on the front page of an obscure blog.
Without further ado, I’ll begin.
The Break-Up
Why am I here? Where did it began? Where did the universe come from? I can’t answer these questions. What I can tell you is that I used to write a food-blog of sorts but then realized that my life wasn’t all about food and I felt silly always writing about it when there’s so much more going on. This is not to say that I won’t be doing any food-blogging around these parts, but I don’t like being shoved into a box. Despite following the blogs of dozens of fabulous people, I never really had the motivation to update mine. This is mainly because I started it during the last semester of my junior year at college and randomly updated it through my senior year–and college life plus bloggy life just wasn’t working out. I broke up with the blog and moved on.
It’s Now or Never
In case you hadn’t noticed, I’m back. A few weeks ago I graduated from college and had a classic post-graduation freakout, like any good student does. The party was over. I was moving back in with my parents, starting a typical adult-ish 9-5 job and was about to start commuting. Shrieks ensued. Mostly being terrified that I’d become a boring & paunchy old woman before I hit my 22nd birthday, I decided to do something about it. I read a book called The Happiness Project and read about one woman’s quest to make her life…happier (go figure). Inspired, I made a list of things I wanted to do with my life, a psuedo-bucket list if you will. I wanted to stay present in each moment (whoaa, buzzwords ahoy) while remaining forward thinking. I wanted to take more pictures (staying present! forward thinking! past…reflecting?) and write more things down. I wanted to cook more good food, take smaller bites and sit up straight. I wanted to find a hobby.
The Plan
What better way to keep all of these things in my head than to blog about them? I plan to maintain this blog so it’s a sort of scrapbook of my life, both the exciting bits and the boring bits–because every little bit counts!
What’s in a name?
Di-muse-io. The Muse, Io.
I am forced to wander the earth without rest in order to discover my muse–whatever it may be. Maybe it’s cliche, but it works for me!
Cryptic enough, for ya?
So now for some real facts, not just random musings (though there will be musings a plenty in the days to come, have no fear):
Graduated college with a degree in English. How original, right? I don’t care if it’s the major of the masses, because I loved it more than anything. I dabbled in everything and changed my major about six times before discovering my true passion for the written word. I primarily studied 19th C. British lit and loved every second of it. Dickens, Eliot, Hardy, Gaskell–these are all on my regular rotation
I also hate emoticons, but occasionally use them. Meh.
Vegan. Reasons why? My health, the environment, the animals, the earth. I think you get the picture.
I have also been described as a “bookworm” and an “introvert”. I’m not really sure if those were intended as insults but I think they suit me just fine. I love my friends and I love my “me” time, so maybe I’m actually a little bit of everything.
More information will be forthcoming, but I think I’ll just leave it at this for now. I’ve got some reading to do
yep. just peed my pants.
this page was so exciting.

Oh man, I totally feel you on the i-want-to-blog-but-i-dont-really-want-to-only-chronicle-my-diet-all-the-time thing. If that’s what you feel. Anyway, your blog looks really neat! I’ve followed

Yes! I feel like I only ever read food blogs, but there’s SO much more to life than my eats. Like books! As for the blog, well, I’ll get this place up and running eventually, haha. It’s a little boring for now but I appreciate your comment
I peed a little too
I’m rather excited to read your new blog. I suppose I should update my blog too? peterandbernadette@blogspot.com… last update: June 4, 2009. Hmm.
New blog title:
Confessions of a Navy Wife…? Santini’s Soapbox?
Oh my goodness, I laughed out loud at your “Are you me?!” comment! Sounds like we do have quite a lot in common… including our super-classy WordPress themes! And the important things, like a love of British lit and a certain fondness for the word “bloggy.”
I’m adding you to my Google Reader, blogtwin!
